Amidst a notable surge in date prices at the consumer level, the Ministry of Commerce has intervened to establish reasonable pricing for dates during the sacred month of Ramadan. Notably, to address this concern, the Ministry has set specific price ranges for different grades of dates. Common or lower-quality dates are mandated to be sold within the price bracket of Tk 150 to Tk 165 per kilogram, while the more widely consumed Zaidi dates are priced between Tk 170 to Tk 180 per kilogram.
This decision, communicated on Tuesday (March 12), was conveyed to the President of the FBCCI and the Bangladesh Fresh Fruits Importers Association by the Ministry of Commerce. It has been highlighted that this determination of standardized prices has been meticulously calculated. The Ministry has analyzed various factors including import prices of different date varieties, the associated duties and taxes, and other expenses borne by importers.
Moreover, stakeholders have been urged to enforce these price regulations effectively. They are requested to ensure that the retail prices of date palm align with the fixed rates established by the Ministry. This initiative aims to ensure fair pricing and accessibility to dates, a significant aspect of Ramadan traditions, for all consumers.
