Bangladesh Import Coconut From India

In a significant milestone, India has initiated the export of coconuts to Bangladesh, marking the first instance of such imports through the Hili land port in Dinajpur. On Thursday, February 22, 2024, at approximately 5 pm, two Indian trucks transported a total of 50 metric tons of coconuts.

Noor Islam, the proprietor of Nashat Traders, the importing entity at Hili land port, revealed that the decision to import coconuts from Tamil Nadu, India, was driven by the escalating demand for this tropical fruit in Bangladesh. The consignment comprises 50 metric tons, with an additional six trucks expected to arrive shortly. Following the port’s operational procedures, the coconuts will be distributed to various locations across Bangladesh.

Sources from the Hili land port customs station confirmed that the consignment was imported by M/s Nashat Traders, while the exporting company, Anandan and Company from the Enayetpur area of Tamil Nadu, facilitated the export of these coconuts.

The cost associated with importing coconuts from India stands at $250 per metric ton. This trade event not only signifies a boost in bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh but also addresses the growing demand for coconuts in the latter country.
