In a groundbreaking move, Saudi Arabia has introduced a new system that allows travelers to enter the country without the need for a physical passport. This innovative digital document service, showcased by the General Directorate of the Passport Department at the Leap Year 2024 conference in Riyadh, enables visitors to obtain a unified number through the ‘Absher’ electronic platform of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Designed to streamline the arrival process for Saudi citizens, residents, and visitors, the digital passport will be stored on the individual’s mobile phone, eliminating the need for a traditional paper passport. This advancement aligns with the broader digital and technological solutions introduced by the country, providing domestic services to those covered under this initiative.
During the Leap Year 2024 conference, the Saudi Ministry of Interior emphasized the significance of artificial intelligence (AI) in advanced technology and digital solutions. The digital passport aims to enhance security, crowd management, and overall safety during global events, contributing to the realization of Saudi Arabia’s Vision-2030. Through this progressive step, the country continues to position itself at the forefront of technological innovation and efficient travel processes.
