On the momentous occasion of Independence Day, the President honored the martyrs of the Liberation War by laying wreaths at the Savar National Memorial, joined by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and King Jigme Khesar Namgel Wangchuck of Bhutan. The solemn ceremony took place at 5:56 am on Tuesday, March 26.
Initially, both the President and the Bhutanese King paid their respects at the memorial altar, followed by the Prime Minister. They stood in silence, reflecting on the courageous sacrifices made during the 1971 Liberation War.
The Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force orchestrated a poignant national salute, accompanied by a mournful bugle rendition. Subsequently, Sheikh Hasina, in her capacity as the president of the Awami League, laid wreaths at the altar once more, accompanied by party leaders including Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader.
After the tribute, the King of Bhutan, along with his wife, the President, and the Prime Minister, signed the visitor’s book at the memorial, commemorating the solemn occasion.
